Our Guides
In a sentence, our guides and our team are the difference, they have all been highly trained and have a passion for the island along with sharing their knowledge. The guiding team are all characters – they have either grown up on the Island or have chosen the Island as their home for many of the same reasons our guests come to visit: unspoiled nature; wide open spaces; strong sense of community; crime so low as to be almost non-existent; and access to some amazing local food and wine.
Individual guides can have their own sense of style in how they interact with our guests however we guarantee consistency in how they are presented, how the vehicles and hospitality is delivered and of course being great ambassadors for our environment and community.
Small Groups
We depart with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 12 people and if there are more than 6 guests we have 2 guides on board. This means we can run with a very flexible tour which is based on a conversation driven largely by your questions rather than a canned commentary so typically found on tours.
The tours have (as their core experience) the Island’s iconic wildlife encounters, spectacular landscape, cultural history and contemporary lifestyles and most of our conversations articulate around those themes. The small group size is particularly important when it comes to encountering wildlife in the bush at our exclusive locations.
Vehicles
After over 30 years in the business we know what works in a vehicle for exploring the length and breadth of Kangaroo Island. Our vehicles are comfortable, safe, sturdy, have room for all of our guests with all seats having equal access and visibility, as well as room for our catering equipment and guest luggage. We rotate guests through different seats throughout the tour which assists socially as well as giving everyone access to the guides for questions.
For vehicles carrying more than 4 guests we have custom audio installed with headset microphone for our driver guide which increases both the enjoyment of the conservation by all and the occupational safety for our staff.
The vehicles are either custom-built to our specifications or purchased and have suspension and other modifications done before being commissioned for service. We pride ourselves in having arguably the best tour vehicles in Australia.
All our vehicles are 4WD and equipped with binoculars and reference materials.

Share or Private Tours
All of our tours and activities can be provided as a share tour joining a small group (maximum 12 passengers with a guide provide for every 6 passengers) of like-minded people or as a private tour where sole occupancy of the vehicle is ensured for you and your group.
A private tour literally means your own driver and guide at your disposal offers the ultimate in flexibility meaning you are able to determine the route taken and time spent at any destination.
If there are 7 or more in your group we recommend you consider taking a private tour, the cost is almost identical at 7 passengers and becomes progressively cheaper thereafter up until a maximum of 12 passengers. The added advantage is that we can tailor the program with your input exactly to what you like.
If you have a very specific interest you wish to pursue (specialty photography, bird watching, geology, botany and landscapes for example) please tell us what they are when you book and we can organise a either a dedicated private tour for you (additional cost) or put you on one of our scheduled tours with a guide who has a similar interest.
The Food
The whole premise of the tour business is summarised in our slogan “Good food, good wine and wildlife in the wild”. We have a qualified Chef and catering team behind the scenes preparing all local Kangaroo Island delicacies from scratch using as much local produce as possible. If you have special dietary needs please let us know – we know what ingredients are in everything and can cater for any particular needs. Tours include home-baked morning tea, elegant picnics and barbeques with a choice of local wines, beer and soft drinks enjoyed in remote and spectacular outdoor settings.
