Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is BIG – nine times the size of Singapore, in fact. Kangaroo Island is Australia’s third-largest island and lies in South Australia only a 30 minute flight or short ferry ride south-west of Adelaide, at the entrance to Gulf St Vincent. The island is 150 km in length and up to 90 km wide and almost covers 4,500 km2.

The Island is home to kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, echidnas, sea-lions, fur seals, platypus, goannas, 260 bird species (many rare or endangered), 4 species of possums, bandicoots and even seasonally whales.

The reason that Kangaroo Island wildlife has continued to thrive is because the island has retained almost 50% of the original habitat through a combination of National and Conservation Parks, reserves and a large tracks on private property.

Visitors come mainly to experience wildlife and the pristine nature whilst Australians and locals love the secluded beaches, laid back lifestyle, fine local produce, natural beauty and the environment.

Kangaroo Island is one of nature’s wonders and this isolation has been key to preserving the natural history. It’s also diverse and beautiful: you’ll discover wetlands, Sahara-sized dunes, cliff tops, rolling valleys, plunging bays and beaches that go on forever. There are also amazing walking trails through huge national parks, sublime local food, terrific fishing, whaling history, artists, a few small towns and friendly locals.
